Joanna Ling is a London based ceramicist designing and making from her garden studio. In a world of mass production, Joanna feels it important to cherish the singular which is why every piece she creates is unique, considered and handmade. Her designs tend towards minimalism and simplicity and therefore look at home in most interiors.

If there’s one person who deserves a Christmas present for all those dinners they’ve hosted, it’s the one who’s been feeding everyone else. A new set of cocktail napkins, a rather lovely serving bowl or a tablecloth for the next time they have friends over. Gifting for hosts is about finding something they’ll bring out whenever people come round, and hopefully put to good use over Christmas, too.

Good renovation advice is almost always retrospective. You have to make the mistakes first. Room by Room is Glassette's series in which we ask designers and homeowners to walk us through their spaces: what wasn't working, what they spent too much on (and whether it was worth it), and what they'd tell you before you pick up a sledgehammer.
For the latest instalment of Room by Room, we spoke to Patricia Rodi, founder of interior design studio Rodi Cécile, about the renovation of her 1860 Victorian villa. Previous owners had over-modernised it, with lowered ceilings hiding the original cornicing, blocked-up fireplaces, and open-plan spaces that left rooms darker rather than brighter. Since then the house has slowly been returned to itself: fourteen rooms reworked to hold family life and two working studios under one roof.
Three years in, with four rooms still to go, the project has had its share of surprises. There were builders' bills inflated by a remote location, fireplaces that cost far more than expected, and a boiler that gave up five days after moving in. Along the way, she learned to live with an old house before making big decisions and to protect original character wherever possible, because, in her words, "you can destroy a century of work in a few seconds".
From reinstated fireplaces and warm pools of lamplight to a kitchen repainted from muted green to brown-red, Patricia takes us through the decisions, splurges and lessons behind a home designed to feel as though it evolved over generations.

The most interesting rooms of the season weren't decorated, they were collected. New pieces sit along vintage forms, inherited proportions with furniture and textiles that are layer and loved. A collected room is never finished, and it isn't trying to be.

Trending Now: New Nostalgia

September doesn't ask permission. The light goes early, the diary fills up, and everyone starts talking about soup. Some of us find this cheering. Others are still quietly mourning August. Either way the response tends to be the same, which is a bit of shuffling about at home: a candle lit for the first time since May, new bedding, the blanket that lives on the sofa for the next six months.
So we asked the team what they're bringing in this season. Below, the small and specific things making the handover from summer to autumn feel less like an ending.

How the Glassette team refreshes for Autumn

July, you've been a lot - but in a good way. Busy doesn't quite cover it, but here's what's stuck with me this month.
A reading room stocked entirely with queer literature, tucked inside an Aesop store. A cabbage (yes, a cabbage) baked and frosted until it passes for a cake. A cosy, intimate dark in Fitzrovia that's somehow fully booked on a random Thursday.
But the one that's properly stayed with me, a shoe shop in Shoreditch, about to go under, saved overnight because the owner's daughter put it on TikTok and the whole neighbourhood turned up for it. Community, doing what it does best.
So that's my July edit, a bit of design, a bit of food, a bit of "support your local shop or lose it." Exactly as a July edit should be.

What Inspired Me This Month

Some houses take years to get right. Where We'd Stay is a new series from Glassette where we ask the people behind exceptional places to stay - hotels, villas, houses, the occasional very good Airbnb - to walk us through what they made and why.
We're starting in Suffolk, at Melton Hall: a Grade II listed Georgian house on the edge of Woodbridge, sleeping up to 17, with a pool that (according to everyone involved) stops people in their tracks. It was three years in the making - a collaboration between Cassandra Stavrou, founder of Proper Snacks, and her longtime friend and interior designer Rebecca Sicardi, who spent those years sourcing art and furniture from independent dealers, avoiding big brands entirely, and commissioning two oak tables from a single fallen tree on the grounds.
Each instalment covers one property, question by question - the design decisions, the nearby spots worth knowing about, and the one thing guests always comment on. Places we'd genuinely stay. Starting here.

Chelsea Flower Show is here. To celebrate, we've put together an edit that asks: what if flowers were interiors? The answer, it turns out, is rather beautiful.

Flowers as Interiors

Pinterest's 2026 wedding trends guide is here. In 2026, weddings are feeling less traditional and far more personal. Couples are moving away from polished perfection in favour of atmosphere, individuality and spaces that feel layered with character. Think candlelit pubs over formal venues, sculptural cakes, undone florals, analogue entertainment and tablescapes that borrow from intimate dinner parties rather than classic receptions. The modern wedding is becoming an exercise in world-building: expressive, cinematic and deeply reflective of personal taste, where every detail, from glassware to styling, feels curated rather than conventional.

The right ceramics change a table entirely. Not in a curated, every-element-considered way - but in the quieter sense that a well-made bowl or a frilled candlestick can make everything around it feel more deliberate.
Whether they taught themselves through grief, channelled two decades of fashion industry expertise into clay, or found their way to a wheel somewhere between a career pivot and a lockdown, Britain's makers share a certain sensibility: handmade but not precious, expressive but not loud. These are the ten makers whose work we keep returning to - and whose pieces are increasingly hard to get hold of once the drops go live.

This week, we turn to Marie Antoinette and its cinematic splendour for interiors inspiration.
A heroine of excess and escapism, her world is as expressive as her wardrobe - indulgent, playful, and impossibly ornate. Think lacquered pastels, sugared almond hues, and gilded detailing, where every surface feels dressed for the occasion.
Bedrooms become confectionery dreams of silk drapery and powder-soft florals, while tablescapes are layered with porcelain, ribbons, and fruit. There’s a sense of theatricality in every corner.
Bring a touch of Versailles fantasy home with pieces that feel decadent, decorative, and just a little bit undone.

Saint Laurent hosted a dinner at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival to celebrate Father Mother Sister Brother.
The event took place inside Palazzo Grassi, where Tadao Ando’s modernist design intersects with the Baroque palace. In collaboration with Bureau Betak, Saint Laurent arranged a fuchsia-hued tablescape: jewel-toned flowers and fruit spread across round crimson tables, set with white china, glass goblets, and platinum candlesticks. Here’s how we’d recreate the tablescape!

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Big Mamma's Carlotta in Marylebone, drawing inspiration from its bold, iconic maximalist interiors to curate a striking collection of statement tableware and glassware. Our edit perfectly captures the vibrant, eclectic spirit of Carlotta’s design, bringing that same energy to your own dining experience.

It's not just setting the table. As we edge into the season of lighter evenings and gathering with friends & family, food stylist & creative director Kirthanaa Naidu shares all the ingredients of a great tablescape and tells us how to host a memorable dinner party that your guests will talk about for months after. Growing up in Malaysia, getting together and sharing food round the dinner table is a ritual that has been a pillar of Kirthanaa's days since she was young. She carries this love for hosting with her into life in London where she plans, styles, cooks for and hosts unforgettable dinner parties and events.
