There’s a reason New York is known as the city that never sleeps. Of course, there are plenty of obvious spots to head to that never get old – Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building, Coney Island, need we go on? But there’s nothing quite like recommendations from someone on the ground who knows where the best bars hidden in the nooks and crannies sit, where to get hot wings that always hit the spot, or the legendary restaurants where you’ll end the night having seen a star-studded face and having eaten a pizza you’ll be thinking about for days. Galleries in TriBeCa that house exciting contemporary artists sit in the same city as vintage shops with 1920s négligées and suiting. We had art director, designer and founder of the New York and LA-based publishing platform Friend Editions, Oliver Shaw, share his very own if-you-know-you-know guide to NYC. Enjoy.

Nice Things This Week

Good renovation advice is almost always retrospective. You have to make the mistakes first. Room by Room is a new series from Glassette where we ask designers and homeowners to walk us through a single space: what wasn't working, what they spent too much on (and whether it was worth it), and what they'd tell you before you pick up a sledgehammer.
In the heart of London sits a slice of Iran in restaurant form. Persian decor adorns the interior of Berenjak Mayfair, which opened its doors earlier this year. It's described as "busy, buzzy and intimate" by Jake Raslan and Lorenzo Buscaroli, the minds behind the interiors – and we're inclined to agree.
With an expansive budget, the pair were able to bring to life stunning details, from a hand-painted ceiling by a specialist decorative artist, inspired by historic Persian miniatures, to bespoke marble mosaic floors in the toilets and elegantly draped curtains. The devil is truly in the detail when it comes to the Mayfair dining spot.
An endeavour that took more than a year to complete, a great deal of time, sweat, bespoke tiles and love were clearly poured into the space. On the food front, guests are treated to an immersive experience, with a kitchen that spills into the dining space, allowing them to watch stone-baked bread and smoked meats being prepared in real time.
We caught up with the brains behind the project to uncover the most expensive details, why handmade craftsmanship really is worth the investment, and whether they have any regrets.

Few materials shape a space quite like wood. Warm, grounding, and endlessly versatile, it brings texture and depth without ever shouting for attention. From pale, tactile grains that brighten a room to rich, dark finishes that add quiet drama, wood has an instinctive way of making interiors feel considered and lived-in.

In 2026, let your interiors moodboard begin on screen. These five films are immersive worlds where colour, composition and object placement feel quietly intentional. Watch for painted walls that set the emotional temperature, fabrics that catch the light, and rooms styled with a restrained confidence: a few standout pieces, thoughtfully spaced, doing more than a crowded shelf ever could. There are motifs worth borrowing too - florals that feel modern, metals that read softly rather than shiny, and palettes that balance sweetness with edge. Consider each film a design reference point: part escapism, part study in how atmosphere is built.

2026 Film List

Granny Core is having a moment - and it ties directly into Pinterest’s 2026 trend, Laced Up. A softer, sweeter, slightly nostalgic turn to interiors. Think ruffled lampshades, scalloped edges, embroidery, floral wallpaper and patchwork blankets that look like they’ve been collected over time.
Pinterest is calling it: comfort is cool again, and the look is all about layering - pattern on pattern, texture on texture. It’s cosy, and quietly confident.

After burning out and finding herself back home during lockdown, Abby rediscovered the bold, soulful flavours of her childhood through her aunt’s kitchen and it changed everything. Now, at her London restaurant Mambow, she’s bringing that same heart and heat to the table: smoky gula melaka–laced desserts, punchy curries, and dishes that balance memory with modern flair. Abby talks about finding her voice through food, the joy of reconnecting with her heritage, and why cooking still grounds her like nothing else.

Put the kettle on and spend five minutes with Olivia Cavalli (@olivia_cavalli), the chef, food stylist, and writer whose debut cookbook Stagioni is a heartfelt ode to the rhythm of the seasons, and to her Italian roots. Olivia’s approach to food is steeped in instinct and tradition, inspired by her beloved Nonna who taught her that cooking is less about rules and more about feeling - “a little bit of this, a little bit of that.” Olivia shares how her heritage continues to shape her cooking, from the reverence for ingredients and seasonality to the joy of preserving family recipes. She talks about finding creativity in the ebb and flow of her multifaceted career, the comfort of a simple bowl of pasta, and the enduring legacy of her Nonna’s “Piggy” - a stuffed cabbage dish that holds generations of love in every bite.
