Our Monthly What’s On is a curated round-up of the exhibitions, restaurant openings, residencies and gigs we’re making plans for. From gallery shows and design fairs to new tables worth booking, cultural moments to catch, and the under-the-radar events you’ll wish you’d heard about sooner.
Think of it as your cultural compass for the month ahead: a considered edit of art, food, music and design, chosen to inspire weekends well spent.
November is the month London turns the lights on at four and goes indoors. The good news is that indoors is where everything is. Three major painting shows open within a fortnight of each other, a new museum opens in a market that’s been shut for thirty years, and the restaurant openings have moved somewhere they can be seen from a bank. Book the exhibitions now. The walk-ins can wait.

What’s On In November

Hot Takes is a new monthly series on the things that make life better. Our creative director, Laura Jackson, lends her lens to a tightly edited selection of what’s worth knowing about. This week: Condiments.

Laura Jackson's Hot Takes: Condiments

The shell has spent decades being filed under "holiday souvenir" and not much else. That's over. Scalloped edges are turning up on lamps and mirror frames, mantelpieces are swapping their usual ceramics for conch and clam, and entire chandeliers are now being built from them - somewhere between a cabinet of curiosities and a beach house, minus the sand. It helps that the appeal was never really in question: no two shells the same, no improvement required. This isn't a coastal trend so much as good taste finally catching up with something the sea got right first.

Whether you’re refreshing the table with a new set of napkins or upgrading your toast with a butter dish, here’s our breakfast tableware edit. Think egg cups for slow mornings, side plates for your croissant, and bowls made for yoghurt, granola, and fruit. Add glass coasters, salt and pepper shakers, and gingham table linens and the little extras that pull it all together.

Make a cup of tea, take a breath and spend five minutes with London food lover and Towpath Cafe chef Clare Cole. Clare shares her thoughts on being a sweet but stubborn cook, her early food memories of hot mackerel sandwiches on the beach and her feelings about the Hamilton soundtrack as a true kitchen cooking classic.
