Product Diaries

By Eleanor Rice

Eleanor is Glassette's Buying and Brand Acquisition Manager - the person who sources new homeware and lifestyle brands for the platform, shapes the ranges, and spots what's worth paying attention to before most people have clocked it. Every month, she shares the products she can't stop thinking about, the trends quietly moving into interiors, and honest recommendations she'd genuinely spend her own money on.

This month: moving house and the small things that make somewhere feel like home, the first signs of Christmas arriving on Glassette, a new take on low-alcohol wine, where Eleanor goes looking for original art, and the handmade LAR Studio pieces she now wants for every window.

September
I’m Eleanor! East Midlands born, London shaped. I moved here at 21 to study fashion and, nearly a decade into my career, I’m still finding new ways to see myself. I’m the Buying and Brand Acquisition Manager at Glassette, where I look after all of our brands - sourcing new ones for the platform, curating the ranges we bring onto the site, and help identify future marketing opportunities for them. As I approach 30, I’ve become more aware of how differently people shape their lives through their surroundings and what they consume. Glassette is a constant source of inspiration for me in that sense - so much of my everyday ends up reflecting the brands and products and content we bring onto the site, and it continually shapes what I’m drawn to and want to explore further. From the latest snack I keep in my bag to how I reposition the lamps in my room, the artwork I choose to live with, and the skincare I rely on day to day - these small, considered choices quietly mirror the kinds of products and routines we champion, each one reflecting a different way of living.
What’s been on my mind this month?
Moving! For what must be the umpteenth time in nearly nine years of London living. Moving is supposed to rank near the top of life's great stressors, but I've been met with a lot of raised eyebrows at how quickly I cracked on and unpacked everything (boxes flattened within the week, thank you very much). For me, making a space feel like home is exactly what untangles the stress - the sooner it feels lived-in, the sooner I feel settled. It's also been a lovely excuse to rescue a few forgotten pieces from storage and give them some well-deserved airtime. The new room is a little bigger, which means my rug no longer runs wall to wall, so I've tried this Andes rug and I love where it's landed - it's the piece that finally makes the room feel finished. And then there's this 'E', which has quietly become my favourite thing in here. I had the same letter on my bedroom door at my mum's growing up, so every time I catch sight of it, I'm about ten years old again, in the best possible way.
What’s happening in product at Glassette?
Gearing up for Christmas (yes, already). Festive nods are slowly creeping onto the site - striped baubles, little felt decorative friends from Yod & Co that could easily be the start of your stocking fillers, and the recent arrival of Audrey's Chocolates. Not only are they completely delicious, the kind that will satisfy any chocolate craving (at any time of year, frankly - let's not confine chocolate to the festive season), but they're also so beautifully packaged that they look right at home on the site. Consider this your gentle early warning.
A product insight I didn’t expect
Future Chateau. I spoke with Tom last week about them coming onboard, and it completely reframed what I thought they were about. His journey to creating Future Chateau has been so considered, born from his own experience with wine - he set out to 'change wine rather than change life'. It isn't a dealcoholised, low-and-no wine, but a 6%, low-calorie alternative that sits somewhere in the sweet middle (and after polishing off all of Audrey's chocolates, probably a sensible option). I can think of a few unmemorable evenings that would have benefited from a slightly lower percentage (haven't we all), and now there's an answer. A clever concept, stunning design, and an easy win of a gift for the wine lovers in your life.
The one thing everyone asked me about
Over on our Instagram stories Q&A, someone asked where to find the best original art. I only had time to squeeze in a couple of names, so consider this the extended answer... Motel Bodega - beautiful embroidered pieces, and I have a particular soft spot for her monochromatic ones, which have a quiet confidence to them. They'll slot into any room (anyone's room, truly), which makes them an easy choice for a bigger gift. Shama Johns - specifically 'the last people standing at the wedding', which anyone who's ever been one of them will recognise immediately. Molly Kayll - Molly's work holds a special place in my heart. Her colour pairings are so considered, and the shapes and characters she creates feel completely her own. A lot of my place already sits in a similar palette, so getting one of her pieces on my walls is firmly on the list. Katie Roberts - the red jug. Simple, striking, and a perfect first piece of original art if you're working with a slightly smaller budget.
Things I'm loving this month
LAR Studio has only existed for a few months, but they're already making some of the most beautiful handmade pieces I've come across. You can feel the quality of the beaded coasters the moment you pick one up - that reassuring weight, the carefully chosen colours - they feel genuinely premium. She's also leaned into the crochet trend I keep spotting everywhere, and my god, is she doing it well. Her crocheted raffia piece is made for hanging in front of a window, which is surely the only place to put it, so you can appreciate every detail as the sunlight seeps through. It's stunning, and I now want one for every window in the house (my new landlord may have thoughts). Proof that the best things don't always need long to get good.
