Meet B. Penhale, the Camille Team's Newest Restaurant
This November, the team behind Camille opens B. Penhale, known as Penhale's, at 57 West Smithfield in Farringdon, in the Grade II-listed former home of Club Gascon. Restaurateurs Clare Lattin, Ratnesh Bagdai and Tom Hill are joined by Camille's executive chef, Elliot Hashtroudi, as chef patron. The menu draws on the regional cooking of Britain and Ireland, with whole-carcass butchery and offal. There are 60 covers in the white-tablecloth dining room and six at a walk-in bar. The restaurant is named after Hashtroudi's grandmother, Betty Penhale, whose family history is tied to Smithfield Market.
This November, the team behind Camille opens B. Penhale, known as Penhale's, at 57 West Smithfield in Farringdon, near Smithfield Market. Restaurateurs Clare Lattin, Ratnesh Bagdai and Tom Hill are joined by Elliot Hashtroudi as chef patron, and he stays on as executive chef at Camille.
The restaurant is named after his grandmother, Betty Penhale, a home cook whose family history is tied to Smithfield Market. His maternal great-grandmother worked there as a butcher. The building has its own history: it's Grade II-listed and was home to Club Gascon, which held a Michelin star, and Lyon's Tea House. "I wish the Camille team and their opening of Penhale's the same success that Club Gascon had over a generation," says chef Pascal Aussignac.
The 60-cover dining room has white tablecloths and draws on the dishes and rituals of Victorian dining. The six-cover bar is walk-in only, with a rotating chalkboard menu that looks at how migration has shaped the food of Britain and Ireland. Across the menu, dishes come with notes on the region they're from. As at Camille, there's whole-carcass butchery, with offal and lesser-known cuts.
Camille's head of wine, Max Hancock, runs the list. It's built around British winemakers working in and outside Britain and Ireland, with the rest taken from what Victorian Britain drank. Hashtroudi came up through Padella, Trullo and St. John before becoming head chef at Camille in February 2024. In 2026, Time Out named Camille the best restaurant in London.
B. Penhale is at 57 West Smithfield, London EC1A 9DS, opening in November 2026. It's open from Monday dinner through to Sunday lunch.
