Meet Betyle Studio: Marseille's new interior design practice

By Elsie MacGregor
07.10.2026

Betyle Studio is an interior architecture and design studio founded in Marseille in 2025 by Carla Romano and Nicolas Cazenave de la Roche, now represented by MEWS. In Paris, it designed Arcane 17, a restaurant on rue Charlot in the Marais. In Marseille, it turned an 1820 agricultural outbuilding into Le Figuier. A new series of stores for Léo et Violette is also on its books, and residential projects are underway across the South of France. Every project starts with the building's history, details and light, and the furniture is designed alongside the architecture.

Betyle Studio is an interior architecture and design studio founded in Marseille in 2025 by Carla Romano and Nicolas Cazenave de la Roche, and now represented by MEWS. Its projects include Le Figuier, a home in Marseille, the Arcane 17 restaurant in Paris and a new series of stores for the leather goods and accessories brand Léo et Violette. Residential projects are underway across the South of France, and new furniture is coming. Each project starts with the building's history, details and light, and is shaped with local craftspeople.

Arcane 17 is on a corner of rue Charlot in the Marais, in a building from before 1800. A stainless-steel tube bar frames the open kitchen, with dishes and tapas to share, standing or seated. The panelling is ebonised, the seats are based on country church benches and folded plaster lights line the walls. The name comes from the Star, card 17 of the Tarot de Marseille.

Le Figuier is a former agricultural outbuilding from 1820 whose thick, windowless walls couldn't be altered. So the studio built inside them: a central piece of architectural furniture that works as partition, storage and light filter, edged with sandblasted glass bricks. Everything is custom, down to the handles. Red-stained okoumé walls sit over a stoneware floor in the brown of old Marseille terracotta. Hooks are now hangers, and the bathroom cabinet is based on a feeding trough.

Pieces in the house include Enzo Mari's pâte de verre bowl for Daum (€4,500), via Memòri Gallery, and Hendrik Methorst's hammered copper Art Deco desk lamp (€2,500), via Objets Inanimés. Luc Rolland's stoneware vase (€1,200) and a Garouste & Bonetti resin catchall (€650) are both via Galerie Jaïs. Alicia Zaton's glazed ceramic Oeil Oki is €800. The Boscaina lamp is the studio's own.

Betyle Studio is at 23 Cours Pierre Puget, 13006 Marseille. Arcane 17 is at 17 rue Charlot, 75003 Paris.
