Mela tickets include bottomless biryani, chai and fresh lime soda.
On Saturday 7 November, Kricket is celebrating Diwali at two of its London restaurants, with a candle-making workshop in Shoreditch and a family mela in Canary Wharf.
For the festival of light, Kricket Shoreditch has guests making their own. Georgia, founder of Hackney candle studio Ohros, runs a hands-on workshop with a library of more than 30 scents. You blend your own soy wax candle, then name it and label it with Ohros's custom-designed labels. Each ticket covers the 90-minute session, all materials, a serve from non-alcoholic botanical brand Botivo and the finished candle.
Candles are best left to set for 24 hours, so you can collect yours from 9am on Sunday 8 November. If you'd rather take it home the same day, stay for breakfast or lunch at 50% off the bill, or spend 2 - 3 hours in Shoreditch and come back for it. The workshop is in the private dining room, which isn't wheelchair accessible. It's open to all skill levels but not suited to young children, given the hot wax.
Kricket Canary Wharf's Diwali Mela runs from 12 - 4pm. The main event is a screen printing station with artist Natasha Kumar, whose work hangs in Kricket's restaurants, supported by artists Ben Allen and Adam Bridgland. Guests customise their own Kumar print with glitter. A dhol drummer greets you on arrival, and there's henna, face painting and Karrom, the South Asian board game, all day. Tickets include bottomless biryani, chai and fresh lime soda. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, though the room may get tight when activities are busy.
Diwali Candle Making with Ohros is at Kricket Shoreditch, 35-42 Charlotte Rd, London EC2A 3PB on Saturday 7 November, 11am - 12.30pm and 1.30 - 3pm. Tickets are £45.
The Diwali Mela is at Kricket Canary Wharf, Unit 6 Frobisher Passage, Canary Wharf Estate, London E14 5HA on Saturday 7 November, 12 - 4pm. Tickets are £30 for adults, £15 for children under 12 and free for under 2s.
