When: April 20-24 Few events within the week have the ability to make a location feel as discovered as Alcova does. Since its founding, the itinerant exhibition has built its reputation not just on the designers it platforms, but on the spaces it chooses to inhabit - abandoned, overlooked, or simply forgotten corners of Milan that, for one week, feel unmissable. This year, Alcova operates across two addresses that couldn't be more different in character. At the Baggio Military Hospital, a vast institutional complex whose corridors and courtyards have hosted the exhibition before, new spaces and pathways are being opened up, the sense of exploration is part of the experience. Then there's Villa Pestarini, a mid-20th-century Rationalist building making its public debut this edition; considered, geometric, quietly remarkable. Between the two sites, 131 exhibitors will fill the rooms, a broad sweep of international talent that runs from independent designers and experimental studios to established brands and design schools. It's this mix that makes Alcova worth the journey out of the city centre: you're as likely to find the most interesting thing you see all week in a crumbling side room as in a perfectly lit main hall.

When: April 21-26 Aesop has never been a brand that does things quietly, and its Milan Design Week debut in lighting is no exception. Apostē - a trio of lamps designed by Aesop's in-house architects made its first appearance inside The Factory of Light, a multi-sensorial installation conceived by Rodney Eggleston of March Studio within the 15th-century church of Santa Maria del Carmine. It's exactly the kind of setting Aesop favours: historically weighted, atmospherically loaded, quietly theatrical. The installation itself frames the question before the object even comes into view, how is light actually made? Through craft, material, human hands. It's a premise that Apostē then answers in physical form. At the centre of the collection is a limited-edition table lamp that earns the word sculptural without having to try too hard. Hand-cast brass and mouth-blown glass, shaped through processes that sit at the precise intersection of industry and craft, the kind of object that holds your attention because you can feel the decisions behind it. From molten metal to softened glow, the lamp doesn't announce itself. It settles into a room.

When: April 20-26 In a week that can feel relentless in its pursuit of the new, American Vintage has done something quietly countercultural: slowed down. At their Brera store on Via Ponte Vetero 9, the brand has handed their space over to Amoraw, a project by Florentine artist Linda Calugi that asks a simple but unfashionable question - what if material itself was the message? Amoraw moves between art, design, and craft with a language that feels personal rather than produced. Calugi's works fill the store with textures that demand to be touched, surfaces that carry the trace of human hands, imperfections elevated into something intentional. Nothing here is smooth in the way that things are smooth when smoothness has been optimised. These are objects and works that have been made, and the making is visible. The fit with American Vintage is less surprising than it might seem. A brand rooted in the easy, sun-warmed authenticity of Marseille life, built on the idea that clothes should feel lived-in from the first wear - there's a natural kinship with an artist who treats rawness as a form of honesty. Inside the store, garments and artworks exist in the same register, each one a surface with a story, each one quietly resistant to the idea that beauty needs to be constructed to count. In Brera, for six days, that turns a retail space into something closer to a sanctuary.

When: April 20 - July 15 Some collaborations make sense the moment you hear them. Marni and Pasticceria Cucchi - daring elegance meets beloved Milanese institution is one of them. Together, they've taken over a space on Corso Genova that pays tribute to the rituals that define the city: the morning espresso, the afternoon pastry, the Thursday evening aperitivo. The visual language, conceived by RedDuo, runs red and green across retro stripes and polka dots, from tableware to staff uniforms to pastry packaging. Under Meryll Rogge's creative direction, Marni's signature irreverence threads through every detail without overwhelming the warmth of Cucchi's heritage. A bow-tie logo ties the two worlds together — literally. Unlike most of what you'll see this week, Marni x Cucchi doesn't close on April 26th. It stays open until July 15th, which says everything about what this collaboration is really after: not a moment, but a place to keep coming back to.

When: March 29 - September 6 The Vignellis shaped the visual grammar of the 20th century with a conviction that good design was disciplined thinking made visible. The New York subway map. The American Airlines identity. Furniture for Knoll. The range is staggering - the thread running through all of it unwavering. This retrospective at Triennale Milano traces their journey from postwar Milan to New York, drawing on over 750,000 documents and artefacts held by the Vignelli Center for Design Studies at Rochester Institute of Technology. Furniture, interiors, drawings, trademarks, publications the full breadth of a practice built on clarity as an ethical position, not merely an aesthetic one. Running until September 6th, it's the show that will outlast the week, and probably stay with you longest.

When: April 19-22 Leave it to Marimekko to turn a garden into a reason to linger. Osteria Fiori di Marimekko arrives at Via Ascanio Sforza 75 for four days only - a floral installation, and part Finnish-inspired aperitivo bar. At the heart of it is Erja Hirvi's Kukasta kukkaan pattern, a hand-painted bloom that unfolds across bold textile installations throughout the space. Ceramics featuring the motif are on hand to take home. Finnish restaurant Maukku supplies the aperitivos. Bocce rolls across the garden. The sun, presumably, cooperates. It's the kind of event that doesn't ask much of you - just to show up, slow down, and let a Marimekko print do what Marimekko prints have always done: make ordinary moments feel worth celebrating.

When: April 16-28 Moncler is making a bold play for summer, with a giant inflatable octopus to match. At Milan Design Week, the brand has taken over 10 Corso Como with oversized sea creatures designed by Andy Hillman, each echoing its signature quilted construction. Inside, 24 looks from the Summer 2026 collection rework Moncler’s core codes into ultra-lightweight, warm-weather layers. “Have a Puffy Summer” signals a clear shift: from winter specialist to year-round lifestyle brand. And with the activation set to travel globally, this is less a moment, more a repositioning.

When: April 21-25 Alessi x C.P. Company is a study in Italian precision - where industry meets intention. Presented at the C.P. Company Milan showroom, the installation pulls back the curtain on the making process: a dialogue between hand, machine, and technology, where ideas are tested, refined, and engineered into everyday objects. Less about surface, more about process, and the quiet rigour behind good design.

When: April 20–24 A reimagined fairground ride at Milan’s Giardino delle Arti, marking the launch Arket in collaboration with @lailacooks, premiering today, 21 April. Based on a historic carousel, with its figures replaced by oversized fruit and vegetables, the work brings together food, playfulness and everyday beauty, shaped through Gohar’s theatrical language. For today’s opening reception, we’ve invited the London Vegetable Orchestra to perform, and they will also host a vegetable-instrument-making workshop during the day. All visitors to the park will receive a ticket that can be redeemed at the ARKET Milan store.

When: April 20-26 Apartamento doesn't do things by halves. This year, the Barcelona-based magazine has taken over Ordet with enough programming to fill a week on its own - two exhibitions, two new books, two signings, a pop-up bookshop, the launch of ApartamentoTV, and a party. Characteristically, none of it feels like too much. Upstairs, the Apartamento Bookshop takes over the first floor: titles, products, and exclusive Muller Van Severen merchandise alongside the rest of the Apartamento universe. Nearby, Reference Library - a collaboration with Jil Sander - makes the case for the book as object and reading as an act of devoted attention. Both Muller Van Severen and Jasper Morrison will sign copies of their new books during the week. For those not making it to Milan, ApartamentoTV launches this edition, a new video channel offering behind-the-scenes access to the week as it unfolds.

When: April 21 - May 10 Charles and Ray Eames believed that the home was not a monument but a way of living - something assembled thoughtfully, scaled to the human body, open to light and change. Eighty years on, that idea feels less like history and more like a provocation. The Eames Houses, presented by the Eames Office and Kettal, is the first exhibition to offer a comprehensive overview of the couple's residential architecture, a body of work that has long existed in the shadow of their furniture but is no less radical for it. Developed through years of research, the show centres on their residential projects of the 1940s and 50s, and culminates in the unveiling of the Eames Pavilion System: a new modular architectural system developed by the Eames Office in collaboration with Kettal, rooted in Charles and Ray's original thinking on prefabrication and modular construction. Two life-sized pavilion constructions anchor the space. Eight newly commissioned scale models - several of which have never been seen or published before, surround them. Rare archival drawings, films, and photographs complete the picture. What emerges is a portrait of two designers who understood that the way people inhabit space is as much a design problem as the chair they sit in. The Eames Pavilion System suggests that the thinking behind Case Study House No. 8 still has somewhere to go.

When: April 21-25 At Palazzo Serbelloni this week, Louis Vuitton turns the clock back to 1921, and finds that the distance isn't as great as it sounds. This year's Objets Nomades presentation is built around a tribute to Pierre Legrain, the Art Deco polymath whose geometric boldness and instinctive command of material made him one of the most distinctive designers of his era. His connection to Louis Vuitton runs deep: in 1921, Legrain designed what would become the house's first piece of furniture, an Omega-shaped dressing table, reissued here in lacquered wood and Nomade leather, as considered and unhurried as the day it was conceived. Alongside it, the Riviera Chilienne chair emerges from the archives in wood, leather, and mother-of-pearl marquetry, a piece that earns its beauty quietly, through the interplay of material and light rather than any desire to announce itself. The Nuits de Paris throw and cushion, drawn from one of Legrain's book cover compositions, bring his graphic rhythm into something you might actually live with daily. What makes Objets Nomades consistently worth returning to is its refusal to treat heritage as a museum exercise. The Legrain re-editions sit alongside new work by international designers, dichroic glass, Damier marquetry - a conversation between then and now that neither side dominates. At Palazzo Serbelloni, that conversation has a fittingly grand room to unfold in.

When: April 20-26 Veuve Clicquot leans into pure escapism with Chasing the Sun. Set within the Brera Design District, the installation by Yinka Ilori - often dubbed the “Architect of Joy” - transforms colour, pattern, and light into an immersive journey built around optimism. It’s bright, expressive, and intentionally transportive. Beyond the installation, the experience extends into the Clicquot Café and Boutique, where the brand’s universe unfolds through food, champagne, and collectible design. Hospitality, but make it euphoric.

When: April 21-26 Lina Ghotmeh’s Metamorphosis in Motion captures architecture as something living - shifting, adapting, never fixed. Presented during Milan Design Week, the work explores transformation through material, light, and movement, reflecting Ghotmeh’s ongoing dialogue between nature, craft, and time. Forms feel in flux, as if shaped by invisible forces rather than rigid plans. It’s less about a finished object, more about process - architecture as a continuous state of becoming.
