Welcome to If I Had A Million, our new series where we ask people anonymously what they'd actually do if they won a million pounds. Not what you should do with a windfall like that, what you'd really do. Each month, one person tells us exactly how they'd split it, spend it, and share it. No names, no judgement, just honesty.
First up: a 26-year-old trainee joiner from Bath, currently renting, who's already got it all mapped out, down to the industrial knitting machine.

So, you have £1,000,000. What’s the very first thing you’d spend your money on?
A house with a garden and a room or shed for a workshop/creative room

If you're buying a home, where would you buy and what would the style be? What room would you invest in first? What are you buying to put in it?
I'd love a house near water and close to a smallish city. The room I'd invest in first would be the kitchen/dining room, as I would love to be able to host for my family and friends and create fun and interesting dinner parties! I'd also love a creative room to keep making things, and buy an industrial knitting machine to keep up the skills I learnt from my textile degree.
Are you going on a holiday straight away? Do you have a destination and hotel/ villa/ airbnb in mind? Immediately splurge vs. slow escape?
I'd love to go interrailing and would like to do it cheaply(ish), just using the money to help support back home so I can be away for a while. I'd love to travel around Italy and practice my Italian, as I'm trying to learn to speak it.
How would you celebrate? Where are you going? Who's coming?
I'd keep it a secret for a long time, until I've bought a house, then I would invite everyone round for like a reverse surprise party and just have a great time with all my friends and family. I'd also love to treat my friends to a holiday away together!!

What's your wild card? Something you wouldn't tell anyone...
Opera lessons or learn an instrument, then do a surprise talent show for all my friends and family, but it's just me doing talents they didn't know I had.
Now the sensible bit, how much would you save, how much would you give to charity and would you give anything to friends and family?
Definitely give some money to each of my friends to help them out and let them be able to do more! I'd do a lot of things to pay back my family without necessarily giving them money, like holidays/looking after their kids and getting them date nights, or hosting them all round together for big family dinners. I wouldn't worry too much about saving it, as I'd like to think what I'm spending it on is more of an investment, like a house or helping people out.
What about your answer would surprise people?
Probably not much, I'm always talking about what I'd do if I win big. They'd maybe be surprised about the opera lessons lol.
What wouldn’t you spend it on?
I wouldn't bother buying a car or new things for my house, as I'd love the space to be able to make my own stuff and learn to be more sustainable, maybe spending a bit more money to be a lot more sustainable, ethical, and help the planet.
Would you tell anyone?
Not straight away, as you never know how people change, and maybe I'd try to gift money or things secretly and add a bit more magic into the world.
Is there anything else you want to add in your own words?
I'd love to be able to make a difference. I'd love to run a shop or eatery/bar with event space where it's community-based, as we're all in this together, and I think people often forget that. And maybe have a platform to show this and bring people closer together.
