Autumn/Winter Wedding Trend Report
Weddings are feeling less traditional and far more personal. Couples are moving away from polished perfection in favour of atmosphere, individuality and details that feel layered with meaning. Think candlelight over floral installations, initials over themes and tables that borrow from intimate dinner parties rather than classic receptions. The modern wedding is becoming an exercise in world-building, where every detail, from the lapel to the place setting, feels curated.
ALTERNATIVE BOUTONNIERE
The simple rosebud is being retired. In its place, buttonholes are becoming small statements of personality, from sculptural mini-arrangements and dried grasses to borrowed brooches, lapel pins and a grandfather's cufflinks. Think heirloom over florist-bought, with pieces chosen for what they mean as much as how they look.
MONOGRAM EVERYTHING
Initials are moving well beyond the invitation suite. Couples are putting their monogram across textiles, décor and even food, from embroidered napkins and wax-sealed envelopes to silk scarves, pressed butter and matchboxes left at every place setting. The effect is less branding, more private members' club, where every detail quietly signals whose night it is.
CANDLES OVER FLOWERS
Candlelight is doing the work that flowers used to. Think tapers in mismatched brass running the length of the table, pillars massed in fireplaces and along windowsills, and tealights lining the aisle, in tones of ochre, chocolate and burgundy rather than bridal white. It is softer, more atmospheric and often a fraction of the cost of a full floral scheme.
UNCONVENTIONAL LAYOUTS
The long banquet table is making way for something more considered. Couples are experimenting with horseshoe arrangements, single round tables for smaller guest lists and rooms broken up with low sofas and lounge corners, while the top table is quietly disappearing altogether. Family-style courses served from the centre complete the feeling of a dinner party rather than a reception.
MIRRORED PLATES
Mirrored chargers are bringing a reflective edge to the tablescape. Placed beneath white plates or used as trays for clusters of candles, they double the glow of every flame and catch the light as the evening goes on. Smoked and antiqued finishes keep the look soft rather than slick.
