The first week of September. Back to school, and a lot on the horizon - Open House, Soho Jazz Festival, the city waking up again. These are the eight things that have inspired me this week.

8 Things That Inspired Me This Week

When you work for Glassette, inspiration has a habit of following you everywhere. For me, travelling is no easy switch-off. My editorial eye is wide open. A five-minute stroll can quickly become an hour when there’s a doorway worth photographing, a particularly good tiled floor or a beautifully set-up bistro table you aren’t even dining at. Every detail feels worth documenting, and every snap brings my iPhone one step closer to begging for more storage.
On the flight home, headphones on, I find myself scrolling through everything I’ve captured, wondering what made me stop in the first place. Why that particular window? What was it about that dish, that shopfront, that slightly faded sign?
After a recent weekend in Marseille, I realised this is how I remember a place: by taking its details and turning them into a visual moodboard. A colour combination I’d never thought to put together, a soap I suddenly need in my bathroom, a table setting worth recreating at home. A collection of little visual souvenirs that follow me home and find their way into everyday life.
So, here is my Marseille moodboard.

Travelling With an Eye For Detail: Marseille

Mint has a habit of looking unfinished; silver is what finishes it. On its own, mint can feel undecided, hovering somewhere between pastel and green. Silver gives it something to play against. 
One comes from the garden, the other from the workshop, but side by side they lose that distance fast. Mint softens the shine, silver sharpens the green, and suddenly both colours make more sense together than they ever did apart.

Good renovation advice is almost always retrospective. You have to make the mistakes first. Room by Room is a new series from Glassette where we ask designers and homeowners to walk us through a single space: what wasn't working, what they spent too much on (and whether it was worth it), and what they'd tell you before you pick up a sledgehammer.
In the heart of London sits a slice of Iran in restaurant form. Persian decor adorns the interior of Berenjak Mayfair, which opened its doors earlier this year. It's described as "busy, buzzy and intimate" by Jake Raslan and Lorenzo Buscaroli, the minds behind the interiors – and we're inclined to agree.
With an expansive budget, the pair were able to bring to life stunning details, from a hand-painted ceiling by a specialist decorative artist, inspired by historic Persian miniatures, to bespoke marble mosaic floors in the toilets and elegantly draped curtains. The devil is truly in the detail when it comes to the Mayfair dining spot.
An endeavour that took more than a year to complete, a great deal of time, sweat, bespoke tiles and love were clearly poured into the space. On the food front, guests are treated to an immersive experience, with a kitchen that spills into the dining space, allowing them to watch stone-baked bread and smoked meats being prepared in real time.
We caught up with the brains behind the project to uncover the most expensive details, why handmade craftsmanship really is worth the investment, and whether they have any regrets.

The secret isn’t more lighting, it’s softer lighting, placed with intention, and switched on before the evening goes grey. Boutique hotels have a particular kind of magic. You walk in and everything feels calm. The sofa looks inviting. The corners are warm. Nobody is being blasted by a ceiling light. Even the air seems better lit. And then you get home and your living room is… fine. Technically. But it doesn’t have that low, flattering glow that makes you want to order olives and speak quietly. It’s either dim and a bit sad, or bright in a way that makes you feel like you should be cleaning. The good news is you don’t need to redesign your living room to get that boutique hotel feeling. You just need to borrow their lighting rules - the ones they’ve been quietly perfecting for years.
