Established in Copenhagen in 2017, Tekla was born from a frustration with the gap in the market for home textiles that were simultaneously beautiful, affordable and made with genuine environmental care. Taking inspiration from art and architecture, the brand produces bedding, towels and sleepwear from organic cotton in Europe, with their products all designed to be lived in for years.

Dan Crow, CEO, on Forest Gate & Leytonstone
I've lived in E7 for coming up on eight years, pretty much bang on the border of Forest Gate and Leytonstone, which is my excuse for being greedy and doing both. When I moved here, before the Elizabeth line, there was nothing. Now we have some great pubs, a wine bar that does coffee and bakes in the morning, and Tuesday night jazz above a social club.
The community and the green space were always here, and the housing stock is lovely, for the most part. I can walk or run for hours on Wanstead Flats without seeing a road.
Everything below are places I actually go.

My Neighbourhood with Glassette CEO Dan Crow

Seven places where the phone goes quiet, the kettle is always on and nobody asks you to optimise anything. For World Mental Health Day, 10 October.
Most of us are good at going away. Fewer of us are good at arriving. The laptop comes too. The group chat follows. By day three you have checked your inbox from a sun lounger and called it a holiday.
Switching off is a skill, and like most skills it is easier with the right conditions. A weak signal helps. So does a view long enough to lose an afternoon in, a bath that takes twenty minutes to fill, and staff who understand that doing nothing is the point.
None of the places below will fix anything on their own. That is not their job. What they do is remove the friction between you and rest. The rest is up to you.

The Best Places to Stay to Properly Switch Off

Sir Paul Smith has been a shopkeeper since 1970, when he opened a room in Nottingham that traded on Fridays and Saturdays only. Fifty-six years later he still works the floor on Albemarle Street on a Saturday, which tells you most of what you need to know. His London is a small one, and it is walked. Bury Street for the galleries, Holborn for the Soane, Claridge's at Christmas, Covent Garden for a shop that sells enamel dustpans. It is the list of a man who has spent fifty years looking at things and deciding which ones are worth keeping.

Paul Smith's Guide to London

You spend a third of your life in it and most people choose it in about four minutes. Bedding gets bought in a hurry, usually white, usually because the last set finally gave out. Which is odd, given it's the thing in the house you touch most. The eleven brands in this edit are worth slowing down for: organic cotton in 1970s prints, scalloped percale from Paris, Portuguese-woven sheets designed to be mixed rather than matched, wool blankets from a mill in Leith. Some will change the whole room. Some you'll only notice at 11pm, which is arguably the point. Here's who to save.

The pharmacy is an unlikely candidate for great interiors. It is a shop that exists to hand over paracetamol. And yet for several centuries it was where a town put its money: the ceramics were commissioned, the cabinetry was made to measure, the ceiling was painted with allegories of healing by someone who had also done a church.
Then the twentieth century arrived with strip lighting. What follows survived it.

September doesn't ask permission. The light goes early, the diary fills up, and everyone starts talking about soup. Some of us find this cheering. Others are still quietly mourning August. Either way the response tends to be the same, which is a bit of shuffling about at home: a candle lit for the first time since May, new bedding, the blanket that lives on the sofa for the next six months.
So we asked the team what they're bringing in this season. Below, the small and specific things making the handover from summer to autumn feel less like an ending.

How the Glassette team refreshes for Autumn

The listening bar has been having its moment - low lights, drinks, someone earnest behind the turntable. Now the ritual is moving home, and the hi-fi evening has become something you host rather than book. Think a turntable given pride of place, records shelved to be seen, seating arranged around the speakers rather than the television. It's hosting at its most generous: one album, played properly, start to finish. We've curated the room - the music, mercifully, remains yours. Below, everything but the B-sides.

Britain is not, on paper, an obvious beach destination. The water is cold, the weather is unpredictable, and yet - on the right day, at the right tide - there are stretches of coastline here that rival anywhere in the world. Powder-white sand backed by machair grassland in the Outer Hebrides. Vast, empty dune systems in Norfolk that make you feel genuinely alone. Dramatic sea stacks off the Antrim coast, turquoise coves in Cornwall that look lifted from somewhere considerably further south. The secret, of course, is knowing where to go, and being prepared to get a little windswept getting there.

From the sun-drenched hills of Tuscany to the whitewashed shores of Mílos, Europe’s most beautiful summer stays promise slow mornings, long lunches and unforgettable views. Check into Il Palazzotto or Casa Newton for romantic Italian charm, or escape to Hotel Mediterraneo on Kastellorizo for turquoise waters and laid-back glamour. In Portugal, Muxima in Aljezur offers barefoot luxury, while La Colombe d’Or in St Paul-de-Vence remains an icon for art lovers. Marseille’s Tuba Club, Nice’s Hotel du Couvent and Mallorca’s Hotel Corazón capture the effortless elegance of a Mediterranean summer escape.

There is a particular kind of swimming that has nothing to do with lanes, lap counters, or chlorine. It happens at the edge of things - where land meets ocean, where rock has been shaped by tide and time, where the water is cold and alive and connected to something much larger than a pool. It happens in places that were carved by volcanoes, built by hand during the Depression, or simply discovered one afternoon at the end of a rocky path.
They exist on almost every coastline in the world, and no two are alike. Some are grand civic monuments, art deco curves cut against a crashing surf. Some are nothing more than a hollow in the lava, filled twice a day by the Atlantic. Some are free, some are heritage listed, some require a scramble down a cliff to reach. What they share is harder to define - a quality of place, of wildness held just barely in check, of swimming that feels like it actually means something.
This is a celebration of the best of them. From the sun-bleached rock pools of Australia to the volcanic coastlines of Iceland and Madeira, from the lidos of Cornwall to a hidden lagoon on a Greek island most people haven't heard of - these are the pools worth travelling for. Bring a towel. The water's cold. Get in anyway!

Bathing, it turns out, has never really been about hygiene. We sat down with Sharmadean Reid, founder of fragrance and bathing brand 39BC, to explore the quiet resurgence of bath culture - and why stepping into hot water feels increasingly radical. She traces the ritual roots of bathing from Roman thermae to Japanese onsen, reflects on the childhood memory that sparked 39BC's founding idea, and makes a compelling case for why the bath is one of the last spaces untouched by optimisation culture. Plus: the seasonal scents she reaches for, the contemporary bathhouse she'd build, and her vision for what bathing, at its best, can actually give you back.

Bathing Is Back

Winter changes how we use our homes. Even the best-styled bedroom or sofa starts to feel incomplete without something extra to pull over your knees, your shoulders, or the end of the bed. A good winter blanket isn’t decorative - it’s functional comfort, on standby. This is our considered winter blanket edit: pieces that add warmth without weight, softness without sloppiness, and texture without visual noise. These are blankets that earn their place through long evenings, early nights, and slow weekend mornings.

This week’s moodboard looks to Marty Supreme, a film that’s become a cultural artefact before most people have even taken their seats. In cinemas now, its rollout has set a new benchmark for how movies show up in culture.
For this week’s film moodboard, we’re borrowing from its world of sharp suits, sharp wit, and scenes that unfold over a perfectly poured drink. Think clean-lined martini glasses, silver platters, and tableware that leans polished and pared-back. Bring a slice of Marty Supreme’s after-hours energy home with our latest edit.

Design isn’t only about how things look - it’s about how they make us feel. The texture of ceramics, the weight of fabrics, the play of light across a room. Design for the Senses is an exploration of atmosphere and detail: pieces that engage touch, scent, and sound to create a home that feels alive. Considered pieces, made with integrity, that invite a slower, more tactile way of living.

Design For The Senses
