September doesn't ask permission. The light goes early, the diary fills up, and everyone starts talking about soup. Some of us find this cheering. Others are still quietly mourning August. Either way the response tends to be the same, which is a bit of shuffling about at home: a candle lit for the first time since May, new bedding, the blanket that lives on the sofa for the next six months.
So we asked the team what they're bringing in this season. Below, the small and specific things making the handover from summer to autumn feel less like an ending.

The ones worth saving for the last week of August, when the light goes long and everything starts packing itself away.
There is a specific kind of film about the end of summer, and it is not really about summer at all. It is about the afternoon the shutters get closed, the argument that surfaces on the last night, the person who was there in July and is not there in September. These nine understand it.

The distance never changes. Twenty-six miles and 385 yards, whether you run it through a city centre or up the side of a mountain. What changes is what you look at while you cover it, and in a few cases the entire point of the day. These are runs for the setting: a closed coast road in California, the vineyards of the Médoc, a moraine below the Eiger. Several are harder than any city marathon. All of them are slower, which is rather the idea. Most take a ballot, a flight, or both, and entries tend to open a year ahead.

I get asked this one a lot, usually with a slight edge of suspicion. How do you find these places? As though there's a list somewhere and I'm sitting on it.
There isn't a list. What there is, I think, is a habit - one I've been doing for so long that I'd genuinely stopped noticing I was doing it. It's less a method and more a low hum in the background of everything else. Writing it down has been quite revealing, actually.
So. Here it is.

How to discover the coolest places in a new area

Mint has a habit of looking unfinished; silver is what finishes it. On its own, mint can feel undecided, hovering somewhere between pastel and green. Silver gives it something to play against. 
One comes from the garden, the other from the workshop, but side by side they lose that distance fast. Mint softens the shine, silver sharpens the green, and suddenly both colours make more sense together than they ever did apart.

July, you've been a lot - but in a good way. Busy doesn't quite cover it, but here's what's stuck with me this month.
A reading room stocked entirely with queer literature, tucked inside an Aesop store. A cabbage (yes, a cabbage) baked and frosted until it passes for a cake. A cosy, intimate dark in Fitzrovia that's somehow fully booked on a random Thursday.
But the one that's properly stayed with me, a shoe shop in Shoreditch, about to go under, saved overnight because the owner's daughter put it on TikTok and the whole neighbourhood turned up for it. Community, doing what it does best.
So that's my July edit, a bit of design, a bit of food, a bit of "support your local shop or lose it." Exactly as a July edit should be.

What Inspired Me This Month

A pairing that earns its keep through proximity rather than contrast, apricot and coral work because neither is trying to win. Two tones from the same warm family, close enough to feel considered, different enough to hold interest - the blush of apricot softening the deeper flush of coral's red undertow.
Apricot does the quiet work. Diffused, flattering, the colour of late afternoon in a room with good light. Coral sharpens the mood without breaking it, adding just enough depth to stop the combination reading as sweet. Together they feel less like a pairing and more like a progression, a colour story that rewards looking twice.
