A lot of what inspired me this week happened around Borough.
A Turkish-Cypriot meyhane on the top floor of a pub, papered wall to wall in someone else's family photographs. A cocktail bar five minutes downhill from it, building drinks out of the market below. A Parisian burger shop in Shoreditch with four things on the menu and a queue that doesn't seem to mind.
But the one I keep thinking about is the Barbican, where every August they put a screen up on the Sculpture Court and let a few hundred people watch films on a concrete terrace in the middle of the City. 
So that's the week - two restaurants, a bar, a film season, a museum and three people whose work I've been sitting with. Here's the eight.

Nice Things This Week

Everyone has the drawer. Ticket stubs, a matchbook from a restaurant in Lisbon, a postcard bought and never sent, three foreign coins that aren't worth changing back. It gets opened twice a year and shut again immediately.
The drawer isn't the problem. The drawer is just badly organised affection.
A memory tray is the fix. One shallow tray, kept somewhere you actually walk past, holding the paper evidence of a good year. Not a scrapbook - nothing needs sticking down, nothing needs a caption. Just the things you couldn't throw away, given a surface instead of a drawer.
