Embracing a bit of hedonism in the art of balanced living, this handcrafted collection blurs the line between art and ritual. All produced by ceramicist Olivia Mason Williams in her Central London studio, each piece calls for moments of pleasure and pause - stoneware artefacts of a life well misspent.

Nine routes for the few weeks when the trees do all the work. Bring a flask.
Autumn is the season the UK was built for. The light drops low and stays gold for hours. The crowds thin out. The paths are soft underfoot and the pubs have lit their fires.
The window is short. Colour usually peaks from mid-October into early November, a little earlier in Scotland and the north, a little later in the south-west. A single windy night can strip a hillside. So go when you can, not when it suits.
These are walks we keep returning to. Most are under three hours. All of them end somewhere warm.

Best Autumn Walks in the UK

Introducing Restaurant People, a new series about the people who open restaurants, and everything they decide before you ever sit down.
Every restaurant is a list of decisions. What colour the woodwork gets painted. Which table goes to the couple who booked six weeks ago. What plays when the first guests arrive, and what plays when the last ones won't leave. You feel all of it and notice almost none of it. Restaurant People is where we ask the people who made those calls to talk us through them - the building, the room, the menu, the wine list, the record that opens the night.
We're starting with Cassette, which opens to the public tomorrow at 42 Maiden Lane.
Mark Gurney and Matthew Bushnell have spent two decades in South London, Salon in Brixton, then Levan in Peckham since 2018, and have resisted going central for most of it. Cassette is the first time they've said yes: 56 covers inside, 20 on a terrace on a quiet pedestrianised street, in a building where Turner was born and Voltaire spent a year in exile, and which spent the 19th century as a furniture and stained glass workshop. It is French, deliberately and unfashionably so. Deep aubergine woodwork, art from Kempton Market, a 360-degree curtain, and a pair of Grundig Audiorama 8000 speakers playing disco. Essa Fakhry is in the kitchen, Madeleine Fawcett is front of house, and there is a serious commitment to calvados.
Mark talked us through all of it.

Restaurant People with Cassette

A desk is the only surface in the house that nobody furnishes on purpose. Everything on it arrived for a reason and none of the reasons were aesthetic: the pen came free, the mug is from a conference, the paper is held down by whatever was nearest. Which is a shame, because it's where a lot of us now spend the hours we used to spend elsewhere. The ten brands here make the things that end up within arm's reach for years: mouth-blown glass paperweights, hand-built trays for the stuff that has nowhere else to go, a diary invented in 1908 to fit inside a breast pocket. None of it will make you work faster. That isn't the job.

A good design fair is, quite frankly, priceless. It's these art fairs that shape the year: where new work gets its first outing, where inspiration is found, and where you discover unknown artists who'll forever change your space. Book your hotel early, wear shoes you can stand in for eight hours, and leave a free morning for the IYKYK exhibitions.

Design Fairs Worth Planning a Trip Around

Since welcoming his first child a year ago, Glassette co-founder Daniel Crow finds a deeper meaning in the rhythm of fatherhood. “I used to imagine it as something more dramatic than it is,” he says, reflecting on life with his daughter. In recent months, he comes to value routine and repetition, where it’s in the small, ordinary moments that rich memories are built. “Now, I think it's mostly about being present and available.”
For Dan, who was raised in Nottingham, his first shining example of fatherhood stems from his relationship with his father, Allan, who he cites as having “never missed one of my football matches, despite not being a fan of the sport”. Today, he still treasures that relationship and doesn’t hesitate to call him for practical advice and menial life tasks – and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
To celebrate Father’s Day and one year of being a father, Dan talks through singalongs with his daughter to Alicia Keys, turning her into an R&B enthusiast, his ultimate TV dad, and how the beauty of being a dad is shaped by embracing the unknown and soaking up joy in the quiet.

Most of us want the same thing from our bedrooms: to switch off. But somewhere between laundry piles, over-bright lighting, and well-intentioned styling, calm can quietly slip away. Learning how to create a calm bedroom isn’t about chasing a minimalist ideal or copying a hotel room wholesale. It’s about understanding what helps your nervous system slow down, softer light, fewer decisions, materials that feel good to touch, and then shaping the room around that. Calm isn’t a look. It’s a feeling you notice when you exhale.

Creating a Calm Bedroom

This month’s colour pairing brings together cranberry and eggnog - a rich maroon red paired with a soft egg white. Cranberry brings depth and festive warmth, while eggnog balances it with a creamy, calming softness. It’s a combination we’re seeing everywhere right now, from food styling to interiors.

Festive Homewares Edit

The shape of a vessel can transform the simplest ritual - the curve of a handle, the weight of a base, the way light moves through glass. This edit brings together mugs, tumblers and cups that are as practical as they are pleasing. Stoneware for quiet mornings, glass for water at the table, everyday pieces designed to be held and used often. Each one has been chosen for its balance of function and beauty - objects that make drinking a more thoughtful act!
