In 1967, Anna Castelli Ferrieri designed a storage unit that didn't look like storage at all. Three stacking drums, a swivel base, doors that click shut with a satisfying half-turn. Kartell has barely touched the design since. Today it sits in bathrooms, nurseries and design museums with equal confidence. Wooden furniture is having a moment of decoration. Tables tattooed with swallows, hands, roses, inked straight into the grain. Wardrobes gone polka dot. Chests of drawers with cows that look like they've wandered off a dairy farm and got comfortable. Even bedframes aren't safe - birds mid-flight across a headboard.
Wood has always taken a mark well. It's just been left plain for too long.

What's On In June

Something that doesn’t happen every day: the chance to own a slice of Diane Keaton’s (very) extensive archive. Earlier this month, it was announced that New York-based auction house Bonhams will spearhead four auctions spanning May and June, offering up the late Academy Award winner’s personal archive. The sales will include everything from plush furniture and, no doubt, a killer selection of hats to red-carpet Gucci looks, artwork and trinkets collected throughout her lengthy on-screen career.

Fruit is having a design moment, and at Salone, it's been impossible to ignore. From Laila Gohar’s surreal fruit carousel to Chloé’s tomato-shaped seating, it showed up oversized, playful, and unexpectedly refined. Less decoration, more statement: a shift towards interiors that feel abundant, expressive, and slightly theatrical.
