Dan Crow, CEO, on Forest Gate & Leytonstone
I've lived in E7 for coming up on eight years, pretty much bang on the border of Forest Gate and Leytonstone, which is my excuse for being greedy and doing both. When I moved here, before the Elizabeth line, there was nothing. Now we have some great pubs, a wine bar that does coffee and bakes in the morning, and Tuesday night jazz above a social club.
The community and the green space were always here, and the housing stock is lovely, for the most part. I can walk or run for hours on Wanstead Flats without seeing a road.
Everything below are places I actually go.

Our weekly Nice Things Edit is a curated Monday round-up of what we’re loving right now. From our favourite pieces on Glassette to a recipe, a watch, a read, a place to visit, a restaurant, and a gift worth bookmarking.
Each week, every member of the Glassette team shares their current favourites, whether that’s new arrivals, pieces we’ve spotted trending, or timeless finds we can’t stop thinking about. Think of it as a weekly dose of joy, discovery, and design inspiration, handpicked by the Glassette team.

Nice Things This Week

Nine routes for the few weeks when the trees do all the work. Bring a flask.
Autumn is the season the UK was built for. The light drops low and stays gold for hours. The crowds thin out. The paths are soft underfoot and the pubs have lit their fires.
The window is short. Colour usually peaks from mid-October into early November, a little earlier in Scotland and the north, a little later in the south-west. A single windy night can strip a hillside. So go when you can, not when it suits.
These are walks we keep returning to. Most are under three hours. All of them end somewhere warm.

Summer 2026 is set to be a rollicking one for music, and album covers have been nothing to turn our noses up at either. From Charli xcx to Kelela and Madonna, we’re assured months of sound that is sonically riotous. But what would décor look like if left to the devices of the albums set to soundtrack the scorching weather? From vivid pastels to minimalist backdrops and landscapes with gritty edges, here’s décor fueled by this summer’s most anticipated releases – and the albums already setting the tone for the months ahead.

Good renovation advice is almost always retrospective. You have to make the mistakes first. Room by Room is a new series from Glassette where we ask designers and homeowners to walk us through a single space: what wasn't working, what they spent too much on (and whether it was worth it), and what they'd tell you before you pick up a sledgehammer.
For the latest instalment of Room by Room, we spoke to Corey Hemingway, co-founder of design-led estate agency Hemingway+K, about the kitchen extension of her 1960s London townhouse. What started as a small, dingy space became a warm, light-filled room designed to do everything at once: cook, work, host, and connect seamlessly to the garden beyond.
Twelve months in the making, the project came with its share of surprises - deeper foundations, escalating construction costs, and the occasional challenge of being, in Corey's words, a "tyrannical perfectionist". Along the way, she learned the value of trusting contractors, following instinct when choosing materials, and investing in the elements that shape a room's atmosphere.
From Douglas fir walls and butter-yellow joinery to the Accoya sliding doors that frame the garden, Corey takes us through the decisions, splurges and lessons behind her favourite room in the house.

Spend five minutes with chef Santiago Lastra, the force behind London’s KOL, where Mexican cooking is filtered through a fiercely personal, produce-led lens. We catch him mid-service, deep in rhubarb season, talking flavour as the ultimate non-negotiable and food as an act of celebration. From spicy, fresh plates designed to make you order another round, to the quiet power of teamwork in the kitchen, Santiago reflects on patience, joy, and why the best meals are colourful, generous, and made to be shared.

Join chef Rachel Khoo as she takes us on a journey through her life in food. From baking wonky gingerbread people with her mum to watching her grandma make flaky apple strudel with lashings of vanilla custard, the way Rachel talks about food is wonderfully sensory and comforting. She discusses the art of the gathering, food being a way of creating connection and reminds us that cooking isn’t always about getting it perfect. There’s pleasure to be found in the process, no matter how simple.
