The second in our neighbourhood guide series - this time our Head of Creative Anna on Highbury.
​I walk everywhere. That's the whole thing, really. I'll add twenty minutes to a journey to avoid going underground, and in Highbury I almost never have to - the park, the high street, the good pubs, the shops I actually use, all of it is on foot from my front door.
It helps that there's genuinely somewhere to walk to. I'd say the best restaurants and pubs in London are within a mile of here, which I know sounds like the kind of thing everyone says about their own postcode, but I'll stand behind it.
Everything below are places I'd actually go.

It's these art fairs that shape the year: where new work gets its first outing, where inspiration is found, and where you discover unknown artists who'll forever change your space. Book your hotel early, wear shoes you can stand in for eight hours, and leave a free morning for the IYKYK exhibitions.

Design Fairs Worth Planning a Trip Around

July, you've been a lot - but in a good way. Busy doesn't quite cover it, but here's what's stuck with me this month.
A reading room stocked entirely with queer literature, tucked inside an Aesop store. A cabbage (yes, a cabbage) baked and frosted until it passes for a cake. A cosy, intimate dark in Fitzrovia that's somehow fully booked on a random Thursday.
But the one that's properly stayed with me, a shoe shop in Shoreditch, about to go under, saved overnight because the owner's daughter put it on TikTok and the whole neighbourhood turned up for it. Community, doing what it does best.
So that's my July edit, a bit of design, a bit of food, a bit of "support your local shop or lose it." Exactly as a July edit should be.
