These are places where art, design and craft aren't a district or a season, but the whole personality of the place. You probably remember the first museum you visited on a family holiday thanks to a keychain you bought or an artist whose work really resonated with you and transports you back to a particular place. Better yet, the best creative cities aren't always the ones with the biggest museums or the most famous galleries, they're the places where making things is woven into everyday life: where art, design and craft shape the streets, the buildings, the food, the music and the people who live there. Some have spent centuries passing skills from one generation to the next, while others have reinvented themselves through artists, students and makers. Here are some places that do it especially well.

Summer 2026 is set to be a rollicking one for music, and album covers have been nothing to turn our noses up at either. From Charli xcx to Kelela and Madonna, we’re assured months of sound that is sonically riotous. But what would décor look like if left to the devices of the albums set to soundtrack the scorching weather? From vivid pastels to minimalist backdrops and landscapes with gritty edges, here’s décor fueled by this summer’s most anticipated releases – and the albums already setting the tone for the months ahead.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the things that quietly inspire you without making a huge song and dance about it.
Not necessarily the big, life-changing moments. More the restaurant you leave already planning your return to before the bill’s even arrived. A book that makes disappearing from society feel oddly glamorous. A hotel suite so layered and atmospheric you briefly convince yourself you could move to Rome and spend your days sketching in cafés. Those sorts of things.
The things that shift your mood slightly. Make you want to host more. Cook differently. Book the trip. Rearrange a room. Romanticise your life a little bit harder.
I suppose that’s always what I’m drawn to in the end - places and people and ideas that make everyday life feel more considered, more beautiful, more alive.
So here’s a little collection of what’s inspired me lately. A bit interiors, a bit food, a bit escapism. Exactly as it should be.

What Inspired Me This Month

Something that doesn’t happen every day: the chance to own a slice of Diane Keaton’s (very) extensive archive. Earlier this month, it was announced that New York-based auction house Bonhams will spearhead four auctions spanning May and June, offering up the late Academy Award winner’s personal archive. The sales will include everything from plush furniture and, no doubt, a killer selection of hats to red-carpet Gucci looks, artwork and trinkets collected throughout her lengthy on-screen career.
