The centrepiece has been demoted. In its place: the salad bouquet, a vase of lettuce or kale arranged stem-down. Little Gem, lola rosa, a wedge of radicchio for colour. Edible flowers are optional, though nobody who has come this far tends to leave them out.

A lot of what inspired me this week happened around Borough.
A Turkish-Cypriot meyhane on the top floor of a pub, papered wall to wall in someone else's family photographs. A cocktail bar five minutes downhill from it, building drinks out of the market below. A Parisian burger shop in Shoreditch with four things on the menu and a queue that doesn't seem to mind.
But the one I keep thinking about is the Barbican, where every August they put a screen up on the Sculpture Court and let a few hundred people watch films on a concrete terrace in the middle of the City. 
So that's the week - two restaurants, a bar, a film season, a museum and three people whose work I've been sitting with. Here's the eight.

In 1967, Anna Castelli Ferrieri designed a storage unit that didn't look like storage at all. Three stacking drums, a swivel base, doors that click shut with a satisfying half-turn. Kartell has barely touched the design since. Today it sits in bathrooms, nurseries and design museums with equal confidence. The English pub garden is a specific kind of pleasure - part institution, part accident. Nobody designed most of them; they simply accumulated, a few benches at a time, until they became the reason you went. The 10 here are the ones the Glassette team keep going back to: a three-storey treehouse in north London, a stone terrace above the Channel where the beer arrives through a hatch, a Dales garden lit by gaslight, a lawn with a Victorian viaduct for a backdrop. Some do serious food, some do pasties and nothing else. All of them reward staying longer than you meant to.
